This is a ground level training to equip children’s ministry volunteers & staff, teachers, mentors, tutors, community volunteers with a basic understanding and knowledge of how and why a child from “a hard place” or with a difficult history may behave differently in a church environment, during after-school program or community programs, at Support Group, etc.
We will first work to build empathy and understanding about how past experiences change a child’s brain and how this should change the way we view behaviors when we interact with them. Then we will work to shift focus on understanding the reasons behind the behavior. Ministry workers/volunteers will not only leave with empathy and understanding – but with several practical ways to connect with a child and meet the underlying need so that behavior change can truly happen while pouring into the children’s deepest need…relationship with Jesus and others!
Please let me know if you have any questions or thoughts as we work to bring this much-needed training so that we can continue supporting families and vulnerable children in our community!
